Warring States Period (475-221 B.C.) Writing, weights, and measures
Before the Qin Dynasty was the Warring States Period which was the seven major states that had broken down and were the Chu, Han, Qi, Wei, Yan, Zhou, and Qin dynasties. The seven states were constantly at war with each other for supremacy. It resembled the spring and autumn period.
Once Shi Huangdi defeated the Warring States that the Zhou dynasty created. He then called himself the 'first emperor' (Qinshhuangdi) because he was the first to unifiy China as a country. |

Qin Shi Huangdi created standardized writing, weights, and measures to improve trade in his kingdom.
He created a written uniform that everyone understood and passed on to make China unified. Standardizing weights and measures increased commerce in China and a tax system. Qin Shi Huangdi created the banliang bronze coin. He made that the only currency in the Qin Empire. The coin included symbolism from Chinese cosmology that combined heaven and earth. |
